Boxed In (Subzero Cover) [Video]

The year was 2008, I can tell you that for sure. I had been playing with Terror for a couple of years at this point and stepped into playing guitar at one of the most active points in the band’s history. We were pretty much living on the road during these times touring as much as humanly possible and I know that in this particular year we did the Persistence Tour (SOIA, Heaven Shall Burn, Born From Pain, Discipline, H2O) and a tour with Ignite, Strung Out and Death Before Dishonor (both in Europe), but I can’t really remember which of those trips this video was filmed on. I had been to Europe with the band several times by now but this time was special. There were a lot of places that although were a “first time” visit for me, the other guys had already been there together in the past. This time we were playing shows in Russia, one in Moscow and one in St. Petersburg, and none of us had set foot in the country before this tour. It’s hard for me to remember exact details about all the logistics, but I can tell you we flew into Germany, I’m almost positive from Russia, and we (minus Nick) were all most likely the same amount of hungover from the night before. I remember being exhausted & hopping into a car from the airport that drove us to some indistinguishable suburb of what I assume was Berlin. Century Media who was our label at that time was putting together a compilation of current bands on their roster covering songs from past albums they’ve released. Our first choice was Merauder but another band (probably someone we arrogantly didn’t feel was worthy) had chosen a song of theirs already so we decided to go with Subzero instead. We all knew OF the song but definitely had to do some studying and figure out how to play it without much time. The actual recording process was the most uneventful part of this whole story because we all breezed through it pretty easily / quickly like the TOTAL PROFESSIONALS that we are. Nick had a camera on that tour, from what I remember just a shitty little point-and-shoot (as you can see from the video quality), and he was filming a bunch of stuff in those days. He got some footage of us in the studio along with us experiencing Russia for the first time together and made a “music video” which as you’ll be able to tell is a person using iMovie on their laptop for one of their first times. The video may not be pretty but it definitely means A LOT to me personally. It really captures an era of my continued experience in the band that was very unique and insane. Even though I may not always remember all the details of the madness, any time I see a single moment from those times the memories and feelings come rushing back, so this video is great for me. And last but not least, the cameo from one of the greatest people in the world, Morretti San — First Rapper With No Rhymes, tops it all off so beautifully.
